I love showing you all the fun things you can do with a tempering unit....and Ive decided that I want to know what YOU would do with a tempering unit.
Before I give the details of this sweet prize...let me explain a few things....
When you see chocolate that has been molded into candies, or covering yummy treats (chocolate covered strawberries, cookies, etc.) ...it's either real chocolate that has been tempered, or a confectionary coating (think fats and wax). So, when you make candies out of little colored wafers...it's cool and all, but it's not real chocolate.
In order for REAL chocolate to be shaped and harden up with a nice shine, with a snap (not a bend)..it must be tempered.
Tempering is the process of heating AND cooling, to very precise temperatures, so that the chocolate will stabilize into it's original molecular state.
That might sound very geeky and weird...when actually, its super cool!
The Revolution 1 Tempering Unit is made by Chocovision, the leader in commercial tempering units. It retails for $429 when purchased at Chocovision, and I have seen prices as high as $700....Dove, typically sells this machine for $300, which is a steal!

I love the marshmallow in the mini ice cream cones. I do have another idea. I have been making brownie hearts (I use a the peite heart pan by wilson) for my daughter's tea parties and it would be so much fun (and so yummy) to cover half of them in tempered chocolate and then cover with spinkles or almond slivers.

ReplyDeleteI would start covering everything imaginable in chocolate! More specifically, I've been wanting to make homemade Mounds and Almond Joy bars. Also some sort of peanut butter confection would have to be created asap.

ReplyDeleteTextured...roll your fondant on this and it will imprint a beautiful design on your cake (we have 3 different designs)
Cocoa Butter Designs....can adhere to melted chocolate....so if you make a cake, frost with hot, melted chocolate, and place transfer sheet on top, then cool in fridge. It will leave the design on the chocolate...very fun and festive!!
Thanks for this great giveaway! I would use the kit to dip some Hazelnut Cinnamon Chip Biscotti from the Baked book. Some dipped homemade marshmallows with the transfer patterns would make some super upscale Peeps for Easter.

What a fantastic, generous giveaway. I would make some molded chocolates with passionfruit ganache, hand dipped sea salt caramels and mini oreo cookies hand dipped and decorated with transfers....then from there, I would make dark chocolate covered grapes and mandarin orange segments! For Easter, I would make some molded hollow bunnies! The machine would get a real workout!

What a great and generous giveaway! The first thing I would make is chocolate covered pretzels. Hubby can never get enough. Then move onto fruits and Oreos. Goodness, so many options.....

The center is a peanut butter confection and the outside is a gorgeous chocolate layer...only...mine have ended up more in the bendy rather than snappy category and I'd love to make her proud with correctly tempered chocolate!

ReplyDeleteAnd who doesn't love chocolate? I always try something new for Easter, so I'd probably use the tempering unit to create something cute and crazy for my nieces and nephews. Chocolate covered Peeps or jelly bean filled chocolate baskets? Hmmmm....the possibilities are endless!

I meant to come back sooner - almost missed it!! I would try using the tempered chocolate to dip things in. A couple years ago, I tried making spoons dipped in chocolate - after they bloomed, I learned that you had to temper the chocolate! Never tried them since, but they're so cute for gifts! So I would attempt it again - LOL! :)

(my favorite!), caramel & chocolate covered pretzels and since "birthday season" is just around the corner in our house I would probably end up making some cute shapes to decorate birthday cakes & cupcakes with.
